We had a very disappointing stay at Bailli de Suffren, our stay was totally not worth the price, service was miserable (with exception to the receptionist when we left, which was surprisingly courteous compared to the rest of the staff), especially at Le Loup de Mer. Key points:
- Staff quality is not up to the expectations for this kind of hotel, staff at the Loup de Mer was extremely rude. Manager (Nicolas I believe) is unprofessional. For the first night, we were told that the only table available would be at 9PM. At 9PM, we are told they are cleaning the table, it should be short. They ended up forgetting about us, and we waited 30 minutes. When we finally got seated, we heard the staff saying it wasn't even our table and we should be seated elsewhere, which was super awkward for us. Then, it took forever to get the bill, so long that all clients in the restaurant got up to get the bill and we were all waiting for a staff member to reappear in the restaurant. It should have been our warning to not book for the following night, but we booked because we were told we'd get a table right next to the water (we asked for a specific tables next to the water, which we were told would be available). The second night, we ended up not getting a table right next to the water. Staff was incredibly rude. We were told we just have to come back to the next day (although we were leaving the next morning) and that the table was good enough by 2-3 staff members, including what I think is the manager. All of this could have been avoided if the staff were upfront and told us the night before that they would try but could not reserve specific tables or tables directly in front of the water. This is definitively not what I expected from a higher end hotel and how we are treated in compable establishments.
- Food at Le Loup de Mer was terrible, especially given the price. The first night, we had two main course which were just okay, not worth the price. The second night, we had the cheese raviolis which was terrible, soggy and tasteless. After two disappointing meals, we decided to have a dessert (a raspberry tart, which was very bland and tasted like a grocery store dessert but for 16 euros!!!!!) and ate more in our room. Overall, food at the Loup de Mer is the worst we had in France during our 2 weeks stay! Food at the Pool Restaurant was decent, juices at the pool were good.
- Furthermore, when we left, we told the receptionist we were quite disappointed by our stay and value for money was terrible. She was the only staff member we met that behaved like she worked in a higher end hotel. She called the responsible of the Loup de Mer and he continued to be very rude. HE NEVER EVEN APPOLOGIZED!! They took off our second meal which was like 39 euros out of a +$1,500 euros stay for 2 nights. This or doing absolutely nothing, it was the same for us. The responsible of the Loup de Mer could not care less, which added to our disappointment.
- We paid more for the sea view, and the view was definitively not the best, we could barely see the water with all the trees. I get that some rooms have better views than other, but it's disappointing when you pay more for a view that is not as pictured. It just added to everything mentioned above.
-Hair dryer was so bad, the worst during our stay in France.
- The day prior, we stayed at Hotel La Calanque which is better located and was almost half the price. View was breathtaking, staff was way nicer and food was very good. Therefore, paying more than double to get treated like this is simply unacceptable.
-That being said, pool amenities and view are very nice, but not worth the price, and did not make up for the rude staff.
